Course Description:
Learn the secrets of the ancient art of glassblowing. Gary M. Jones
is a renowned master glassblower and artist of national and international
distinction. He has practiced this specialized craft for 35 years.
The 24-hour "hands on" course will introduce you to the
basic glassblowing techniques for fun or profit. Instruction includes;
safety; lighting and extinguishing the torch; proper handling of glass;
safe disposal of scraps; strain in glass; torch tips; gravity and
hot glass; flame annealing; temperature control; shape formation with
solid and hollow glass; glass weaving; working with colored glass
for jewelry; marbles; rings; and bead making; paper weights; vases
and much more. Learn the skills of wholesale; retail; production;
tooling; marketing; displaying and demonstrating your art glass at
special events etc. Discover what you need to set up your own glassblowing
workshop. Tuition includes use of glassblowing equipment and supplies
during the course. All artistic creations produced will belong
to the student.

Course Objectives:
*This is a comprehensive and intense class, which includes a full
lesson plan, master equipment list, lengthy links list and extensive
?hands on? torch work. The student will be trained in the use of the
highly specialized equipment involved. Creativity is both expected
and encouraged.
*Culturally, the art of glassblowing and lampworking is quickly becoming
a lost art. The coveted secrets of the craft have been dying with
the masters. There are a few masters to leave the inheritance.
*Glassblowing and lampworking is a unique way to integrate creativity
and technological skills. This integration of skills prepares the
student for innovative thinking while manifesting the form.
The past, present, and future are woven together in this course. The
added integration of creativity and technological skill enhances in
the student a well-rounded experience.

interesting phenomenon; basic techniques.

techniques; control issues; unique frustrations.
V. Saving
glass; removing strain; the power of proper planning.
VI. Home
workshop; master glassblowing tools list.
